The immigration officer could be seen using scissors to trim the lashes of the lady to achieve a natural look for her passport renewal. Expressing disappointment, the lady lamented how uncomfortable the process was and how belittling it made her feel. In the caption of her video, she wrote, “Renewing my passport and they had to take my picture. They said I cant have my picture with my lashes done. They are saying I have to cut my lashes. I’m so sad man.” Reactions as immigration officer trim her eyelashes of lady before passport renewal _pretty99__ said: “Y’all know u can’t use long lashes but u still go there to embarrass yourself.” olivia__davids stated: “Don’t y’all read the guidelines before going for passport?” holy_spireet opined: “Some of you will embarrass yourself even when you know it’s wrong. Eyelashes won’t allow the camera to capture your eyes and eye bag well. Not in Nigeria alone. Same wey you can’t take a passport photograph with a cap or glasses.” abbyabus clarified: “The guidelines are on the website, but you all want to trend. Every eke market day, “they asked me to take out my eye lashes” 🤣” daintyrossy said: “Did she not know before? It’s your identity no fake anything. Even nose ring not allowed lipgloss too.” bound2fido penned: “They gave me scarf to cover my cleavage 😂. They gave the lady before me black wig to wear cos she dyed her hair pink 😂😂😂.” Watch the video below …

UK Immigration Fee Hikes Face Criticism

UK Immigration Fee Hikes Face Criticism

The UK Immigration’s oldest medical union slammed the government’s proposals to raise the amount migrant workers pay to utilize the state healthcare system in order to support public-sector salary rises on Saturday. The administration of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak approved recommendations this week to raise teacher, doctor, and police pay by 5.0 to 7.0 per cent.

UK Immigration Fee Hikes Face Criticism

UK Immigration Fee Hikes Face Criticism Sunak ruled out raising taxes or borrowing from the government to fund the increase, instead claiming that increases in the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) and visa fees would raise £1 billion. physicians in Unite, which represents junior physicians, general practitioners, and hospital consultants, were “appalled” by the plan, which would require migrants to pay twice as much to access the NHS. You can check out: Most employees in the United Kingdom have National Insurance contributions deducted at the point of hire. “Migrants, like other workers, contribute to NHS funding through general taxation.” “Doubling the NHS surcharge to more than £1,200 ($1,570) per year is an unjust additional penalty,” Unite doctors said. “Migrants are effectively ‘taxed twice’ to access the same service,” the statement continued, calling the action “immoral and divisive.” The IHS, which was introduced to discourage “medical tourism,” is now paid by the majority of migrants as entrance regulations tighten post-Brexit. For stays of more than six months, it is paid per person in addition to visa fees. Over-18s pay £624 each year, while students and those under the age of 18 pay £470. The government has proposed boosting the IHS for adults to £1,035, with a reduced rate of £776. Work and visit visas will climb by 15%, while student and leave-to-remain visas, among others, will rise by at least 20%. According to official data issued in May, net migration in the UK will reach a record 606,000 in 2023, putting additional pressure on the government, which has committed to reducing reliance on foreign labour. Sunak has called legal immigration “too high,” and he is also dealing with a surge in asylum requests by migrants crossing the Channel in small boats. Critics say that the IHS rises, which will be paid for by individuals or businesses, will exacerbate understaffing in several industries and drive high-skilled professionals and students elsewhere. Praxis, a migrant and refugee organisation, has accused governments of treating people born outside the UK as “cash cows” at a time when they are already having to pay exorbitant visa renewal fees. The Wellcome Sanger Institute, a genomics research institute, estimated it will spend more than £300,000 on immigration costs for its employees in 2023. “These proposed increases create additional barriers for global talent… and will have a negative impact on UK and global science,” said Sarion Bowers, head of policy.

Details of Germany’s immigration new law that provides job opportunities for Nigerians

Germany passed an immigration law last week Friday to open up new opportunities for job seekers from countries outside the EU and for many refugees who are already in the country. According to German’s Interior Minister of Social Democrats (SPD), Nancy Faeser, the draft law secures prosperity in Germany.

The German Parliament “It would only work if the bureaucratic hurdles were dismantled during its implementation,” she said. Like many countries in Europe, Germany is facing a shortage of skilled workers. In 2022, the country’s labour shortage rose to an all-time high: the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) found 1.74 million vacant positions throughout Germany. Together with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, she emphasised removing bureaucracy and improving the digitisation and efficiency of the system, according to Euro News. “We know that we can only guarantee our future, the efficiency of our economy and the efficiency of our social security systems if we have enough skilled workers at our disposal,” said Scholz. “From within the European Union, that’s not so difficult, because there is freedom of movement. With regard to the rest of the world, it is a greater challenge,” he added. Here are key things to know about how the law opens job opportunities for Nigerians and other nationals. 1. According to Euro News, the reforms are to modernise the country’s immigration legislation expected to make it easier for third-country nationals to work in Germany. It could increase the number of non-EU workers in Germany by 60,000 per year. 2. The reforms to the Skilled Immigration Act particularly focus on workers with vocational, non-academic training. Existing rules for qualified professionals with university degrees will also be relaxed. 3. Germany is hoping to combat its shortage of skilled workers with a new ‘opportunity card’ called chancenkarte. The ‘chancenkarte’ will use a points system to enable workers with required skills to come to Germany more easily. 4. The points-based system will take into account qualifications, professional experience, age, German language skills and ties to Germany. 5. Every year, quotas will be set depending on which industries need workers. Three out of four of the following criteria must also be met to apply for the scheme: a degree or vocational training, three years’ professional experience, language skills or a previous stay in Germany and 35 years old or younger. 6. Currently, most non-EU citizens need to have a job offer before they can relocate to Germany. A visa for job seekers already exists, but the ‘chancenkarte’ is expected to make it easier and faster for people looking to find work in Germany. 7. Citizens of certain countries with visa agreements can already enter Germany for 90 days visa-free but are only permitted to take up short-term employment. 8. The opportunity card will allow people to come and look for a job or apprenticeship while in the country rather than applying from abroad. Applicants must be able to prove they can afford to pay their living expenses in the meantime. 9. The exact details of the scheme are yet to be formalised. The chancenkarte is not expected to be available until at least the end of 2023. 10. The new system will make it easier for people with professional experience – rather than a university degree – to come and work in Germany. 11. Germany will become more open to job experience and professional qualifications that are recognised in workers’ native countries. Currently, the country is strict about which qualifications it recognises. 12. It will also be easier for those without a job offer to seek work in Germany via the opportunity card. 13. Qualified job seekers with degrees or vocational certificates will be allowed to stay in the country for one year as they search for employment. While looking for full-time employment, they will be permitted to work up to 20 hours per week. 14. Rules will also be eased for those with a job offer and a recognised diploma. Salary thresholds will be lowered, it will be easier for workers to bring their families to Germany, and it will be easier to gain permanent residency. 15. Job opportunities are open in Germany for immigrants that are craftspeople, electrical engineers, IT specialists, careers, nurses, catering and hospitality professionals.

"I can never live in Europe again" – Jason Njoku shares experience with immigration officer in Venice

Business mogul, Jason Njoku recounts an experience he and his wife, Remmy, had with an immigration officer in Venice, Italy.

Jason Njoku Venice experience immigration officer

Jason revealed that he and wife had gone to Venice for a short stay. At the airport, the immigration officer asked to see their returning ticket, and not how long they intend to stay, as they usually ask other people. He said that he and his wife burst out laughing at the question which irritated the immigration officer.

According to him, he had given the man their first class tickets and asked the man if he and his wife look like people who came to the country to hustle. He wrote: “@MrsMaryNjoku & I flew to Venice in March. Immigration asked for our return tix. Not how long are we staying o? But can they see our return tix? We burst out laughing😂🤣. Immigration was 🤬. Said it’s a ‘normal question’. Gave them our 1st class boarding tix, and asked them do we look like people here to hustle? We’re staying at St Regis &are here for 3 nights. They let us through. No need for showing any tix again. Walahi I personally can NEVER live in Europe again. ⛔️. We just need a strong 🇳🇬. But we all know it’s increasingly getting worst.” He shared this in reaction to a Tweep who revealed that he had recently experienced racial profiling for the first time in his life. “FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I CAN CONFIRM I EXPERIENCED RACIAL PROFILING. At the Milan Linate Airport, I passed security checks, as I walked towards the gates, two police men stationed in front of the security check stopped a black man dressed in a Senegalese kaftan,” the tweep wrote.

Peter Obi alledgedly detained by Immigration in UK

Peter Obi alledgedly detained by Immigration in UK

UK immigration officials allegedly detained Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the recent general elections, for hours and interrogated him upon his arrival in London‘s Heathrow Airport.

Peter Obi

Obi confided in Professor Chinyere Okunna, who worked with him as commissioner for information, commissioner for economic planning, and coordinating commissioner for development partners, expressing his frustration and pain about his ordeal and others meant to drive him out of Nigeria. Immigration officials claimed that someone was impersonating Obi in the country, raising concerns about potential criminal activities and framing. Okunna said: “I suppose he told me all this confidentially. My very sincere apologies, Your Excellency, for ‘breaking’ this confidentiality, but History beckons and I CANNOT KEEP QUIET. “Obi spoke to me at the Official Opening of the Specialist Hospital of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Sisters, Nkpor (on Tuesday). He had arrived at the event after flying in from London. “I actually had no idea he had travelled out of the country, until the ovation over his presence in a London Church went viral on the Internet. “He arrived at Heathrow Airport and joined the usual queue to pass through Immigration, and that was when his ordeal began. “He was stopped and questioned for a long time and subsequently handed a detention note and told to wait for further interrogation and investigation. “This was terribly unusual for a man who had lived honourably in the UK for a long time. “In the face of this harassment, some well-meaning Nigerians, knowing who he is, raised their voices in protest, demanding to know why he was being treated that way.” “The shocking revelation by the Immigration Officer was that his (Obi’s) identity ‘was duplicated’. This revelation has definitely set off alarm bells. “For people who are knowledgeable about such matters, this is a very dangerous development because the implication is that someone is impersonating Peter Obi. “And that someone could implicate Obi in all manner of dubious and even criminal activities, and rope him into any number of offences; he could get Obi framed for one criminal act or another. The frightening scenario of what can happen is unimaginable!!! “This is the height of it all for a man who has been under sundry intimidation and emotional torture: Bugging of his phone and those of his wife and children; keeping him constantly under surveillance; calling him names; putting him under severe pressure to leave (run away from) the country; wrongly accusing him of negative things he knows absolutely nothing about, etc. “As he was telling me his ‘Heathrow tale of woe’ at Nkpor today, I could see a man who was in severe pain and under unbearable stress, who many would expect to be at the point of despair. “But, as he confirmed, he is ready to suffer this pain and is as determined as ever to pursue the path which he has chosen to enable him arrive at the destination which well-meaning people in Nigeria and far far beyond are expecting him to arrive at.”

Nemesis catch up with immigration officials accused of extorting money from a teenager who travelled alone to Canada

Nemesis catch up with immigration officials accused of extorting money from a teenager who travelled alone to Canada

Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), accused of extorting a 14-year-old girl who was travelling alone to Canada have been found guilty of the allegation.

Recall that on 19th February, 2022, a distressed woman had called out the NIS while alleging on Twitter that some of its officers took all the money on her teenage daughter.
She had said: “My 14 year old daughter, FOURTEEN, is traveling by herself.
“Immigration took ALL her money before they let her go. They took money from a fucking 14 year. Didn’t even leave her with 1kobo or 1 thousand naira so she can buy food while she waits. How WICKED!!!! @FAAN_Official.
“I am so angry. A child!!!!!!! Why are you stealing money from a child! And you took all of it and didn’t let her call her mother?!!!

“Whoever was involved, you will die in penury! Your joy will turn to ashes! You will plant seeds and harvest thorns that will tear your flesh!
“I am stunned at the wickedness. A child!!! A bloody child!!!!
“Since you people want to focus on the unimportant, airlines don’t provide unaccompanied minor services for connecting flights. Only direct flights and as she is coming to Canada…
“They do however provide supervision on the flight and sit kids together. Now that’s clear.”
Barely a month after the allegation against the NIS officials, a letter from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) dated 18th March, 2022, and shared by a Twitter user @AyoOyalowo reveals that the officials have been severely punished while the money extorted form the teenager is refunded.
The letter titled, ‘RE: ALLEGATION OF EXTORTION OF PASSENGER AT MMA,’ reads: “Following a tweeted allegation on the 19th of February 2022 by the mother of a 14-year-old girl travelling on Lufthansa Airline that two officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service extorted the sum of eight thousand naira from her daughter, a team of FAAN Aviation Security officers were commissioned to investigate the allegation.
“Upon investigation, they found the allegation to be true, as the officers involved were identified with the help of footages on our CCTV facility, and the cooperation from the Nigerian Immigration Service.
“Consequently, the officers were made to refund the exact amount collected from the passenger.
“Their On-Duty Cards were also withdrawn permanently, and they have been banned from working in any Nigerian airport, to serve as deterrent to others.
“We would like to commend the mother of the child, who has confirmed receipt of the money, for deeming it fit to escalate the case, and assisting us tremendously in the course of our investigation.
“Also, we would like to express our appreciation to the Comptroller of Immigration, MMA and her team for her cooperation and support in addressing this issue. The Authority will continue to identify and sanction any airport official (including FAAN officials) found to be extorting passengers or perpetuating any act of illegality at our airports.
“FAAN…. Committed to her core values of Safety, Security and Comfort. Faithful A. Hope-Ivbaze (Mrs.) Ag. General Manager, Corporate Affairs.”
