Father drags sons’ to court for stealing his properties when he travelled abroad

Nigerian man Ade Olowopopo has initiated legal proceedings against his two sons, Kunle and Mayowa, alleging that they assaulted their sister, Bisi Olowopopo, and stole his properties while he was abroad. The alleged incidents occurred at the family residence in Lakwe Lekki, Lagos State. The suspects were arraigned at the Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing a five-count charge that includes assault, breaking and entering, stealing, and posing a threat to life. According to the prosecution counsel, Paul Ugorji, the defendants committed the crimes in 2019 while the plaintiff was abroad. During the purported incident, the brothers reportedly forcibly entered their father’s compound, assaulted their older sister, and drove her out. Additionally, they allegedly took a block molding machine and a N7 million Toyota 4Runner Jeep without their father’s consent. The courtroom revelations unveiled an underlying family dispute, with information emerging that the sons belong to Olowopopo’s second wife, with whom he has disagreements, particularly regarding the boys’ paternity. Paul Ugorji outlined that the accused violated several sections of the Lagos State 2015 Criminal Laws, including Sections 411, 172, 287, 56, and 168(d). The charges read, “That you, Adekunle Olowopopo, 35, and Mayowa Olowopopo, 33, sometime in 2019 at Lakwe Lekki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit a felony, to wit assault, stealing, breaking and entry, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and thereby committed an offense punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.” Magistrate O. M. Ajayi accepted the petition and granted the accused sons bail. They were each released on a bail amount of N40,000 with one responsible surety.

A young lady has lamented and expressed regret about her visit from Jos to Lagos to see her boyfriend of three years. The young lady has taken to her social media page to call out her boyfriend over the unruly behavior he portrayed to her when she left her home in Jos to visit him in Lagos. According to the young lady, she went to her boyfriend’s house and spent days, but he didn’t care to give her a dime, not even transport fare. The lady added how she fell sick but her boyfriend did not give her any money for her medical bills. She disclosed that she used the money she had on her to buy drugs until she was better. Sharing her story, she said; “I visited my boyfriend from Jos to Lagos, I went with my transport when I reached, he welcomed me very well. But the issue here is that any time I tell him that I want to eat catfish or shawarma, he will tell me to bring money for it that he doesn’t have and I will give him to buy and he will eat more than me. “I fell sick too in his house I was the one that paid for my medical bills. Pass forward to when I wanted to go he didn’t give me a dime to add to my transport fare and this is someone that was begging me to come visit him. “Since I got back not even a call from him and we have been dating for 3years, it is work that took him to Lagos. His attitude towards me this time around is confusing me.”

Nemesis catch up with immigration officials accused of extorting money from a teenager who travelled alone to Canada

Nemesis catch up with immigration officials accused of extorting money from a teenager who travelled alone to Canada

Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), accused of extorting a 14-year-old girl who was travelling alone to Canada have been found guilty of the allegation.

Recall that on 19th February, 2022, a distressed woman had called out the NIS while alleging on Twitter that some of its officers took all the money on her teenage daughter.
She had said: “My 14 year old daughter, FOURTEEN, is traveling by herself.
“Immigration took ALL her money before they let her go. They took money from a fucking 14 year. Didn’t even leave her with 1kobo or 1 thousand naira so she can buy food while she waits. How WICKED!!!! @FAAN_Official.
“I am so angry. A child!!!!!!! Why are you stealing money from a child! And you took all of it and didn’t let her call her mother?!!!

“Whoever was involved, you will die in penury! Your joy will turn to ashes! You will plant seeds and harvest thorns that will tear your flesh!
“I am stunned at the wickedness. A child!!! A bloody child!!!!
“Since you people want to focus on the unimportant, airlines don’t provide unaccompanied minor services for connecting flights. Only direct flights and as she is coming to Canada…
“They do however provide supervision on the flight and sit kids together. Now that’s clear.”
Barely a month after the allegation against the NIS officials, a letter from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) dated 18th March, 2022, and shared by a Twitter user @AyoOyalowo reveals that the officials have been severely punished while the money extorted form the teenager is refunded.
The letter titled, ‘RE: ALLEGATION OF EXTORTION OF PASSENGER AT MMA,’ reads: “Following a tweeted allegation on the 19th of February 2022 by the mother of a 14-year-old girl travelling on Lufthansa Airline that two officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service extorted the sum of eight thousand naira from her daughter, a team of FAAN Aviation Security officers were commissioned to investigate the allegation.
“Upon investigation, they found the allegation to be true, as the officers involved were identified with the help of footages on our CCTV facility, and the cooperation from the Nigerian Immigration Service.
“Consequently, the officers were made to refund the exact amount collected from the passenger.
“Their On-Duty Cards were also withdrawn permanently, and they have been banned from working in any Nigerian airport, to serve as deterrent to others.
“We would like to commend the mother of the child, who has confirmed receipt of the money, for deeming it fit to escalate the case, and assisting us tremendously in the course of our investigation.
“Also, we would like to express our appreciation to the Comptroller of Immigration, MMA and her team for her cooperation and support in addressing this issue. The Authority will continue to identify and sanction any airport official (including FAAN officials) found to be extorting passengers or perpetuating any act of illegality at our airports.
“FAAN…. Committed to her core values of Safety, Security and Comfort. Faithful A. Hope-Ivbaze (Mrs.) Ag. General Manager, Corporate Affairs.”
