Lagos APC Leaders Deny Knowledge of Tobun’s Speakership Aspiration

One of Lagos APC Leaders, Abiodun Tobun, the lawmaker representing Epe I in the Lagos Assembly, has not yet informed them of his intention to challenge Mudashiru Obasa, the current Speaker, for the position of the 10th Lagos Assembly, according to prominent leaders of the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bashorun Olorunfunmi and Kaoli Olusanya.

They denied knowledge of any discussions on how to help Tobun unseat Obasa as a Speaker. Their responses follow a social media article with the headline: “Speakership crisis rocks Lagos Assembly as Abiodun Tobun leads race.” ALSO READ: Presidential Tribunal: Obi tenders 136 exhibits from 6 States Including Lagos and Edo According to the report, Lagos APC Leaders have decided to prevent Obasa from seeking reelection a third time. The leaders, notably Tajudeen Olusi, the head of the GAC, were believed to have met after the elections and decided that the next Speaker needed to be a native of the region. According to the source, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was not in favour of Obasa’s attempt for a third term because of the party’s mood and his tacit criticism of the president’s attitude. As one of the party’s leaders in Lagos East, where Tobun comes from, Olorunfunmi stated: “I haven’t been told anything, and the party hasn’t yet discussed something similar. Tobun himself said nothing to me. Olusanya added that Tobun’s desire to become a speaker had not yet been disclosed to him. He claimed that because the legislative branch is an independent entity, lawmakers have the free will to choose who leads them. However, he asked the lawmakers to carefully consider their options before making any decisions, especially with the party leadership, noting that “that’s the beauty of Lagos APC democracy and its internal mechanism of handling issues.” ALSO READ: Ohanaeze Criticises APC for Allocating Deputy Speaker Slot to South-East Governor Sanwo-Olu is an insightful democrat who understands the concept of the separation of powers and the independence of the legislative branch of government, according to the governor’s spokesperson, Gboyega Akosile. He will never interfere with lawmakers’ business. “The governor has always had a cordial relationship with the Assembly and he (Sanwo-Olu) has no issue with Obasa and therefore would not have instigated any uprising in the Assembly,” said Akosile, who called the author of the stated report intentionally “mischievous.” Lagos APC Leader, Seye Oladejo also asked the public to disregard whatever rumours they may have heard regarding the election of the 10th Assembly’s leadership. “APC has a reliable internal system to deal with problems, and this will not be an exception,” he asserted. When the time is right, the necessary work will be completed, and Lagos’ residents will be aware of the next Speaker. He added that the legislative branch is an autonomous entity with the power to choose its leaders.

Presidential Tribunal as  Mr Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, who claimed that the 2023 presidential election was rigged, presented 136 more documents before the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, on Friday. The exhibits, which were admitted as evidence by a five-member panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, included presidential election results from six federation states.

Photo Credit: @peterobigregory: Instagram Adamawa, Bayelsa, Oyo, Edo, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom were the states to whom the court acknowledged their presidential election results contained in Forms EC8A. Obi, who finished third in the presidential race, told the court that the results he presented were certified authentic copies obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission or INEC. He tendered election results from 115 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Rivers, Niger, Benue, Cross River, Osun, and Ekiti on Thursday. The petitioners received permission from the court to submit new results from six LGAs in Rivers State, which were acknowledged and labelled as Exhibits PB 16 to PB 21 at the resumed proceedings on Friday. However, INEC said that the additional Rivers State results were “strange” to it. Also Read: “Peter Obi is my president” — Aisha Yesufu insists, calls President Tinubu an impostor Mr Kemi Pinhero, SAN, who led INEC’s legal team, informed the court that the Commission would state its reasons for opposing the results’ acceptance in its final written address. Similarly, counsel for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN, as well as counsel for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, objected to the results being admitted into evidence. The responders stated that they would save their reasons for disagreeing with the election results in their final written address. Following that, Obi and the LP presented to the court new results from Bida LGA in Niger State, which were allowed as Exhibit PE 24. Whereas the court admitted results from 21 LGAs in Adamawa state and labelled them Exhibits PH 1 to PH 21, it also admitted presidential election results from 8 LGAs in Bayelsa state and labelled them Exhibits PJ 1 to PJ 8. The court accepted results from 31 LGAs in Oyo as Exhibits PK 1 – PK 31, while results from 18 LGAs in Edo state were marked as Exhibits PL 1 – PL 18. The petitioners also presented presidential election results from 20 LGAs in Lagos state, which were acknowledged as Exhibits PM 1 – PM 20, as well as results from 31 LGAs in Akwa Ibom state, which were admitted as Exhibits PN 1 – PN 31. Related: Tinubu’s Inauguration: Peter Obi finally breaks silence Although Obi won the presidential election in Lagos state, he claimed in his appeal that there was widespread voter suppression in the state and that electorate who would have voted for him were openly harassed or intimidated. Meanwhile, the Justice Tsammani-led panel unanimously reversed its previous decision to resume the hearing on Saturday. Even though the lead counsel for the petitioners, Dr Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, stated that his team was prepared to appear before the court on Saturday, lawyers for all of the respondents took turns begging the court to postpone further hearings of the matter until the next Monday, a request the panel granted. Obi and the LP have already made it known that they plan to call a total of 50 witnesses. Obi specifically claims in the joint petition he filed with the LP that President Tinubu was not the legitimate victor of the election. President Tinubu was not eligible to run for president, according to the petitioners in CA/PEPC/03/2023. According to the petitioners, Tinubu’s running mate, Shettima, was still the APC’s nominated candidate for the Borno Central Senatorial race when he became the Vice Presidential candidate. The petitioners also disputed Tinubu’s eligibility to run for president, asserting that he had previously been charged with dishonesty and drug trafficking and fined $460,000 by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, in Case No: 93C 4483. The petitioners claimed that because INEC disregarded its regulations and guidelines and engaged in fraudulent practices, the election was invalidated and in breach of the Electoral Act of 2022. The Petitioners contended that, during the presidential election, the electoral body was legally compelled to prescribe and deploy technological equipment for the accreditation, verification, continuation, and authentication of voters and their personal information. As a result, they are asking the court to declare, among other things, that all votes cast for Tinubu and the APC were squandered as a result of his ineligibility/disqualification.

The lady had berated her for preparing dog meat as meal as she expressed her displeasure. Okon who reacted to this tagged the woman as cloutina, further noting that she wants to dim Hilda’s shine by inciting western hate. He pointed out to the lady that eating dog meat is a delicacy in Akwa Ibom which happens to be where Hilda is from.

Okon added that if preparing dog meat is a crime, then the same argument could be made of other animals which are pets to other people. In his words: “Who’s this one sef? Ok Madam Cloutina, before you began inciting western hate on Hilda, you should have first of all known that there is no proof that the meat on that table is dog meat. Most things on social media aren’t real. Second, even if it is dog meat, Akwa Ibomites and Cross Riverians eat dog meat and there is NOTHING wrong with it. They don’t eat pet dogs, but wild dogs. It’s either ones hunted as game in the forest or the local breeds that are somewhat wild, strayed and launch indiscriminate attacks on unsuspecting passersby. It’s not an ape that we are talking about here, that is a primate and in the same family with humans but lesser animals. If it ts, then one may make a commonsensical case for cannibalism or something close. It’s a dog and not a pet dog like you are carrying to chase clout with. People eat pythons and other kinds of animals which are pets to many. I’ve seen many Python pets in Florida. So should a protective movement be flagged off for all animals? Are you vegan? Even if you are, what if someone comes with a claim which is a arguably a truism, that plants have life and deserve to live and it is cruel and destructive to life to allow it end up as food just because u are at the top of the food chain? As much as this is a mischievous and selective justice for animals, it is also broad day light witchcraft to put a clog in someone’s wheel of progress.”

A tragic incident unfolded in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos, as three siblings were discovered lifeless inside their landlord‘s Toyota RAV4 car. Credit: Google Images Eyewitnesses reported that the children, accompanied by their cousin Blessing (11), were engrossed in play around 11 am on Tuesday, May 23. Surprisingly, Blessing, the oldest among them, did not enter the vehicle, nor did she raise an alarm upon realizing that her cousins had become trapped inside the car. Speculation arose that Blessing refrained from seeking help due to fear of punishment for trespassing into the area. Enraged by the incident, a mob took matters into their own hands and physically assaulted the landlord until the intervention of law enforcement. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, verified the tragedy, stating that the Officer in Charge of the Police Family Support Unit (FSU) received distress calls regarding the suspected Sudden and Unnatural Death (SUD) caused by suffocation of underage children. Upon arrival at the scene, the police encountered a crowd gathered near the residence of Moses in Ikorodu. “The father of the deceased children said he was from Izii community in Ebonyi State and a tenant at the aforementioned address. The children were playing with their cousin, one Blessing Hyacinth, a girl of about 11 years, a foster daughter to Mr Osondu, at about 11am inside the landlord’s RAV4 SUV parked in a fenced and gated compound,” the PPRO stated. “One of them inadvertently pressed the central lock button of the vehicle and it ended up locking the trio till they got suffocated. The three children were taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital where they were confirmed dead by medics and their corpses deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy in the presence of their father.” “The landlord was brought to the station for protective custody and the RAV4 SUV was taken to the station for safekeeping too,” he added.
