Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was on Monday appointed by President Bola Tinubu as National Security Adviser, NSA, making him the first-ever NSA without military background since the return to democratic governance in 1999. NSA, Nuhu Ribadu Ribadu, who was the first Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will become the third retired police officer after the late Gambo Jimeta and Ismaila Gwarzo to be appointed to the position. The new NSA, born on Nov. 21, 1960, was an intelligence police operative who retired as Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). He came to the national limelight as a star prosecutor at the Oputa Panel which was created to investigate human rights abuses during the military era. He was later appointed Chairman of the Petroleum Special Revenue Task Force before he became the pioneer Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC was tasked by the Federal Government to counter corruption and fraud in the country. Ribadu’s pragmatic approach to intelligence gathering and crime-fighting while in EFCC earned him global recognition and awards. His remarkable efforts led to the de-listing of Nigeria from the Financial Action Task Force List of Non-Cooperative Countries and Territories; admission into the prestigious Egmont Group, and the withdrawal of the US Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network Advisory on Nigeria. Ribadu was a visiting fellow at the Center for Global Development, a TED Fellow, and a Senior Fellow in St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford, UK. Ribadu run for President of Nigeria under the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011, and had sought to contest for the governorship of Adamawa on two accessions but missed out during party primaries. The seized hardware are 309 pieces of military helmets, 106 pieces of military armless jackets, 352 pieces of ballistic body armored pad, 119 pieces of police badges, five pieces of bulletproof jackets, 33 pieces of body side ballistic pad, and 105 pieces of ballistic chest plates.

Dangaladima further stated that the hard drugs originated from India and Pakistan and were routed through Addis-Ababa to Lagos. The customs area controller said the seized drugs with a duty-paid value of N13,827,775,560 have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). “We are very much mindful of the fact that 2023 is an election year in Nigeria; the inflow traffic of these hard drugs that induce our youths to do extraordinary things (when taken) are bound to increase,”  “But I can assure the unscrupulous importers that MMAC is the most dangerous route for their illicit trade because we are always here to catch them and ensure that they face the wrath of the law. “In total obedience to the directives of our able CGC – Rtd Col Hameed Ibrahim Ali, we are poised to continue intercepting and seizing the illicit products – especially hard drugs as they come, he said.

Nigerian army reacts to killing of military couple in Imo

Nigerian army has reacted to the killing of military couple who were reportedly on their way to wedding in Imo state.

The Nigerian Army in a recent statement, accused members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) of killing the two soldiers in Imo State.

A.M Linus, a Master Warrant Officer in the army and his Private officer wife, Pte Gloria Matthew were shot and beheaded on Saturday.
Reacting to the incident, army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu said the “dastardly act, one too many, clearly portends the deep-seated hate, desperation and lawlessness with which foot soldiers of IPOB/ESN have been unleashing terror on Ndigbo, whom they claim they are on a mission to protect and emancipate, as well as other innocent Nigerians who are resident or transiting the South East.”

He added, “The Nigerian Army (NA), on Saturday 30 April 2022 received information on the gruesome, barbaric and most despicable manner in which members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network(ESN) murdered in cold blood, two soldiers Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Audu M Linus (retired) and Private(Pte)Gloria Matthew, who were on transit to Imo state for their traditional wedding.
“Apparently, the soldiers had embarked on the trip to fulfil the traditional rites of conjugating their matrimony, as the very well respected and cherished Igbo tradition demands.
“Ironically, the fact that one of the soldiers, Pte Gloria Matthew who hails from Nkwerre LGA of Imo state, has an ethnic affiliation with the good people of South-East Nigeria did not prevail on the sensibility of the dissidents.
“This gruesome murder, in which they did not spare even their own child, clearly depicts callousness, impenitence and is indisputable, a brazen act of terrorism perpetrated by IPOB/ESN.
“Though the dissident groups have continued to live in denial, while masquerading as unknown gunmen in their criminal violent campaign in the region, the NA will ensure the perpetrators of this dastardly act unleashed on its personnel do not go unpunished. While we deeply condole with the families, relations and close associates of the victims, the NA has commenced investigation to unmask and bring the criminals to book.
“Members of the public are please enjoined to oblige security agencies actionable information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals.”
