Joe Igbokwe, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Drainage and Water Resources, criticized the Labour Party for allegedly selling false hopes to its supporters, Obidients.

Joe Igbokwe

Igbokwe stated that the party is misleading Obidients by encouraging the hopes of reclaiming their supposedly stolen mandate. Following the February election where the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, came third and insisted on his intention to challenge the election’s outcome in court. Despite this, Peter Obi and Labour Party have continuously urged their members to remain hopeful. On April 24, Joe Igbokwe took to his Facebook page to express his surprise at what he referred to as a time of “deception,” stating that he had never seen anything like it before. “Labour party is still dubiously telling their supporters that there is still hope for them abi? I have seen deception before but this one has no part 2. We will get understanding by force. Dazzol,” he wrote.

Peter Obi addresses suffering, loss of rights of Obidients

Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has written an emotional letter to his supporters, who are commonly referred to as “the Obidients.”

Obi, who came in third place in the recent presidential election, stated that he and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, were aware of the suffering experienced by his supporters, including verbal abuse, physical attacks, loss of rights and privileges, and online harassment. Obi’s statement was published via a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Monday, and it comes after an alleged audio conversation between him and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church.

"We’re aware of your sufferings, loss of rights, privileges" – Peter Obi addresses Obidients

Peter Obi acknowledged that even those who were once seen as civic leaders and the conscience of the nation had joined in attacking his supporters. He urged them to see the attacks as necessary sacrifices required to create a new Nigeria. While urging the “Obidients” not to give up or be lured into unnecessary conflicts, Obi assured his team that they remain fully organized, focused, and committed to addressing the country’s problems. The former governor of Anambra State added that he and Baba-Ahmed would use all lawful and peaceful means allowed by the laws and constitution to reclaim their mandate to create a new Nigeria. Peter Obi on Sufferings, Loss of Rights and Privileges of Obidients “My Obidients, a very happy Holy Month of Easter and Ramadan to you all. As we celebrate the Easter and look forward to a joyous Eid El Fitr, we pray for God Almighty’s guidance, protection and blessings as we face and pass through a litany of challenges in our dear country, Nigeria- flawed electoral processes, insecurity, weak institutions, multidimensional poverty, unemployment, inflation, lack of justice, fairness, equity, opportunities and many more. “As we reflect on these challenges and look forward to a New Nigeria that is POssible, Datti and I are painfully mindful that for the mere reason of being OBIdient, most of you have suffered vituperations, physical attacks, loss of rights and privileges, hateful trolls, indignities and vexatious fighting words, even from some of those we long regarded as civic leaders and conscience of our nation. Please bear such attacks as the sacrifices that we are all required to make in order to create a New Nigeria, where justice, equity, fairness, love and prosperity shall reign.” My Obidients, a very happy Holy Month of Easter and Ramadan to you all. As we celebrate the Easter and look forward to a joyous Eid El Fitr, we pray for God Almighty’s guidance, protection and blessings as we face and pass through litany of challenges in our dear country, — Peter Obi (@PeterObi) April 10, 2023

"Wole Soyinka can never be the man Chinua Achebe was" – Charly Boy mocks novelist over ‘Obidients’ comment

Nigerian musician, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has expressed his disappointment in Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, claiming that he has degraded himself to a common errand boy for corrupt politicians.

Charley boy

Charly Boy made this statement in response to Soyinka’s recent criticism of supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party. He noted that he used to hold Soyinka in high regard, almost the same level of respect he had for his late father, Justice Oputa. However, Charly Boy has come to the realization that Wole Soyinka can never be the literary icon that Chinua Achebe was.

Wole Soyinka

Charly Boy lamented that many Nigerians who previously revered Soyinka would be disappointed by his recent political activities. In a post he made on Instagram, he stated: “The kin respect I had for dis man, was almost the kind of respect I had for my stainless father, The Socrates of the Supreme Court. “It has finally dawned on me that Soyinka can never be the man Chinua Achebe was. “Look at a man many Nigerians put on such a high pedestal reducing himself to a boyiboyi for criminal politicians. ”What a f..king big shame.” See the post below:

Obidients in their different groups had planned a mega rally nationwide scheduled for the 20th of March to protest the outcome of the February 25th elections. Peter Obi dissociates self from Obidient's #EndINEC protest, accuses opposition parties

In a series of tweets, he emphasized that the issue of his stolen mandate is presently before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET). Peter Obi on #EndINEC and #EndNigeria Protest “My attention has been drawn to social media postings suggesting that a nation-wide groundswell “#ENDINEC”, “#ENDNigeria” Protest is being planned by the Obidients. We are aware that those postings are being orchestrated by the Opposition. My position is clear: Without prejudice to constitutional dictates on freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, I have publicly stated that in the matter of reclaiming our stolen mandate, we shall do so robustly, via the Courts and Due Process. Regardless of the misgivings many may have about our Judiciary, we must strive to build strong and resilient institutions, of which the Judiciary is one. As a firm believer in the separation of powers between the three arms of government, I am conscious that every so often, the Judiciary is called upon to vindicate itself on epochal national public-interest issues. The matter presently before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) is one such litmus test case. Therefore, we are committed to pursuing Due Process in an unfettered manner. That is our primary and priority option. -PO” My attention has been drawn to social media postings suggesting that a nation-wide groundswell “#ENDINEC”, “#ENDNigeria” Protest is being planned by the Obidients.
