News coming in say that the Rivers State House of Assembly candidate has been kidnapped by some unknown gunmen a few days before the elections.

According to reports, Chukwudi Ogbonna, the Accord Party candidate for the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly was kidnapped by these gunmen while driving in his car at Rumuigbo. The news of the kidnap of the candidate was announced by his brother Ifeaka Nwakiri while speaking in an interview with The Punch. “They took him with his Mercedes car. We have reported the matter at the Kala Police station”, he said.

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested Semiu Adegesin, a 45-year-old man, in connection with the death of a three-year-old girl named Esther Samuel.

The suspect was apprehended for  negligence that resulted in the child’s demise. Adegesin, who possessed a loaded dane gun, had left it unattended in an open space in his backyard, where children played. A 13-year-old boy identified as Babalola reportedly picked up the gun, aimed it at the girl, and pulled the trigger, resulting in her death. According to DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect was arrested following a report made at the Imasayi police divisional headquarters detailing the incident that occurred at Kukudi village in Imasayi. Oyeyemi said, “Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, the deceased was discovered in a pool of blood. “Preliminary investigations revealed that Semiu Adegesin, the owner of the dane gun, loaded his gun and carelessly left it in an open place in the backyard of the house where children used to play. “It was at this point that the 13-year-old Babalola picked up the loaded gun, pointed it at the deceased, and pulled the trigger. “The deceased was quickly taken to the General Hospital, Ilaro, but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. “The owner of the dane gun was promptly arrested and taken to the station for interrogation.” Expressing his sympathy to the family of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, described the incident as unfortunate. He also urged the public to remain calm while assuring them that the case would be thoroughly investigated. “The death of young Esther Samuel is an unfortunate incident, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family. “The Ogun State Police Command will ensure that justice is served in this case and the perpetrator brought to book. “We urge members of the public to remain calm as we conduct a thorough and discreet investigation,” He said.

INEC postpones governorship and state assembly elections…

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has postponed the governorship and state assembly elections.

Initially, the elections were scheduled to hold on the 11th of March but have now been postponed to the 18th of March, 2023. The postponement is due to the inability of the commission to promptly commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS machines utilized during the February 25 presidential election to enable their use in the state elections. Mahmood Yakubu INEC was earlier restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until the due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) were issued to candidates who are challenging the outcome of the presidential election. The commission had convinced the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal to vary its order granting Peter Obi of the Labour Party and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar permission to inspect the election materials on the premise that it had to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) for the conduction of the polls this Saturday.

The Lagos State Government announces opposition to the exhumation of the body of Whitney Adeniran of Chrisland Schools for another autopsy.

This comes following a claim that the Chrisland Schools requested a second autopsy on the late student after the first report stated that she died of electrocution. According to a statement released by the Lagos State Government on its website on March 4th, the Ministry of Justice stated that it is aware of ongoing discussions about an alleged plan to exhume the body of Whitney Adeniran. The ministry stated that it has not received any official communication requesting an exhumation but If such a request is received, the ministry will oppose it. “Whilst we have not received any such official communication requesting for exhumation, however, if and when we do receive such a request, we shall be opposed to it. “The circumstances for exhumation under the Coroners’ Systems Law, 2015, do not arise in this case. “Additionally, it is not our intention to further traumatize the deceased’s family. “We are working closely with the police who have given their reassurance that the duplicate case file would be forwarded on March 6 to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to aid speedy issuance of legal advice,” it added.

Peter Obi wins Delta state with 341,866 votes

Recall that the 2023 presidential election was conducted on the 25th of February, 2023. Earlier, we reported that Peter Obi surpassed his counterparts in Abuja, Nasarawa, Lagos, Enugu, and now Delta in the elections. According to the results released by INEC, Obi polled a total of 341,866 to edge out his closest rival PDP’s Atiku Abubakar who polled a total of 161,600 votes while APC’s Bola Tinubu polled 90,183 votes to come third. The candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, came a distant fourth with 3,122 votes.

Tinubu emerges winner in Zamfara State with 298,396 votes

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has emerged as the winner in Zamfara State.

The collation officer for the Zamfara State presidential election, Professor Kashim Shehu of the Federal University of Birnin Kebbi, announced the results in Gusau, the state capital, in the early hours of Tuesday. Kashim noted that Tinubu won 12 out of 14 Local Government Areas in the state, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party won two. According to the results announced at the presidential election collation center, Tinubu polled 298,396 votes. The former Lagos State governor was closely followed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 193,978 votes. Other top contenders were Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) who scored 4,044 votes and the Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) with 1,660 votes.

Shehu declared that votes in 167 polling units were canceled due to over-voting, insecurity, and disruptions by thugs. The total number of registered voters in the state was 1,879,308, while 527,137 of them were accredited for the poll. A total of 502,923 valid votes were recorded and 16,508 void votes, bringing the total votes cast to 519,431.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinibu of the All-Progressive people’s party and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party have lost their votes in Nasarawa State. Peter Obi, who captured four local governments in Nasarawa, and votes obtained votes from other LGAs totaling 191,361 to bag the state. Peter Obi He was ahead of other political parties such as the ruling APC with 172, 922 votes, PDP with a total score of 147, 093, NNPP polled 12, 715, and APGA polled 989 among other parties.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 2 men for buying votes with new naira notes and wrappers.

According to EFCC, the commander led by Aliyu Yusuf on the 25th of February arrested two alleged vote buyers in Gusau Zamfara State with the sum of N107,000 in their possession only in one thousand notes denomination wrappers. The statement read: Officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, led by Commander of the EFCC, Aliyu Yusuf, on 25th February 2023 arrested two alleged vote buyers in Gusau, Zamfara State. While Mustapha Abubakar was arrested with the sum of N107,000 (One Hundred and Seven Thousand Naira) only in one thousand naira denomination and tickets specially designed for voters as evidence for voting for his party before collection of the money, Isa Abdullahi was arrested for buying votes with wrappers concealed in the boot and back seat of a Peugeot 406 saloon. The suspects and the recovered items are in the custody of the Commission as the investigation continues.

Atiku floors Tinubu in Buhari’s state, Katsina

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has secured a win in President Muhammadu Buhari’s state, Katsina.

Atiku got a total of 489,045 to defeat APC which secured 482,283 votes. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s candidate, emerged third with 69,386, followed by Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi who received 6,376 votes. At the INEC Presidential Election Collation Center in Katsina, Professor Muazu Abubakar Gusau, the state’s returning officer and vice chancellor of the Federal University Gusau, proclaimed Atiku the winner of the election. 3,516,719 people were enrolled to vote in the state as a whole, but only 1,097,663 of those people had been accredited to vote.
