Ohanaeze youth tells JAMB to set another test for Mmesoma

The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to bring Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme’s alleged results falsification case to rest by testing her with another examination. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Miss Ejikeme, erstwhile student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi in Anambra, had celebrated her emergence as the candidate with the highest score in the year 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB, in a statement on Sunday signed by its Spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, however, accused Miss Ejikeme of inflating her results to curry favour, adding that the result would be withdrawn as she would have to face prosecution. Speaking with newsmen in Owerri, on Tuesday, the Financial Secretary of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, called on the examination board to put the matter to rest by resetting the examination for Miss Ejikeme. Arthur-Ugwa described the situation as `embarrassing’ to the candidate, JAMB, and Nigeria in general and called on the Board to immediately clear its image and that of the nation. He added that the allegation would come with negative psychological and emotional effects on Mmesoma. Arthu-Ugwa called on the body to “desist from causing harm” in any form or by any means on an innocent youth who had yet to be pronounced guilty by the results of ongoing investigations into the matter. “Only another examination supervised by independent observers will bring this matter to rest and we will avail ourselves to be part of the supervision if need be,” he said. According to him, the Board had never complained of any attempt to manipulate its website, hence the need for the board not to preempt investigations. “Only a few years back, JAMB told us how a snake swallowed a huge sum of money in one of its offices; today we are being told that the results of an examination that should admit students into our hallowed tertiary institutions can no longer be trusted for what they are. “JAMB must, as a matter of national importance, realise the seriousness of its role in society and stop being in the news for the wrong reasons. “If its management can no longer hold forth, then let the Federal Government overhaul the entire board and save our country and her people from needless embarrassment’’, he said. NAN however, reports that Miss Ejikeme has denied the allegations, insisting that she scored a total of 362 marks in the examination as against JAMB’s 249 and adding that she printed the result from the board’s portal.

Ayodele said: “Tinubu’s victory is more spiritual than physical, when he said ’emi lokan’, people didn’t understand. That ’emi lokan’ mantra has a lot of spiritual and positive energy. “Atiku and Obi are not ready, they think Tinubu will just sit down and fold his hands? He (Tinubu) will put all the lawyers and judges in one calabash and throw them inside water. “Tinubu is spiritually desperate and only God can take him out of the way. Atiku and Obi are just wasting their time, they are not ready to take the number one position. “They are just noise makers who go on the internet to rant, will the internet give them victory? Tinubu’s victory is totally spiritual.” He also maintained that the senate under the leadership of Godswill Akpabio would be a rubber stamp. “The Senate under Akpabio will be a rubber stamp, I don’t see anybody being serious; even the opposition will soon join the ruling party because the radical ones will be silenced,” he added.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Israel, who monitored Unit 006, Ward 15, Lagos Island Local Government, provided this testimony as part of the petition filed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour. The witness told the court that he observed the card reader indicating that Sanwo-Olu and his wife had invalid cards, yet they were still permitted to vote, which he considered a violation of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s electoral process. “I observed that the card reader showed their cards to be invalid but Sanwo-Olu and his wife were allowed to cast their votes and this is against INEC’s electoral process,” he said Under cross-examination from counsel to INEC, Charles Edosomwan, Israel alleged that he was beaten up by All Progressives Congress supporters on election day. He claimed to have recognised them as APC supporters based on their language and stated that they threatened to beat up voters who did not vote for the APC. He said, “I am not a member of the Labour Party, but I was assigned as an agent. When the APC thugs recognised me as an LP agent, they beat me up. They also said if voters did not vote for APC, they would beat them too.” Israel further described the incident, stating that four individuals attacked him during the casting of votes, but he managed to escape, changed his clothes to disguise himself, and returned to monitor the vote counting. The witness also highlighted cases of multiple voting at the polling unit, noting that INEC officials failed to intervene despite witnessing the irregularities. The hearing on the petition has been adjourned until July 3, when the proceedings will continue.

“Stop looking for who to blame for your failure”, INEC tells Peter Obi

"Stop looking for who to blame for your failure", INEC tells Peter Obi

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday during a court proceeding lambasted the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, for accusing the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, of evading the service of a witness summon on him. INEC, through its lawyer, Mr. Kemi Pinhero, SAN, accused Obi of always looking for who to blame for his failure in the presidential election. "Stop looking for who to blame for your failure", INEC tells Peter ObiINEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu   Peter Obi, who accused the 2023 presidential election of being rigged, secured a subpoena through his legal team led by Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, to force the INEC Chairman to appear before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) in Abuja. Insisting that he wants the INEC boss to not only testify before the court as a witness but to equally produce and tender in evidence, some sensitive materials that were used for the conduct of the presidential election. While lamenting the inability of his client to effect service of the summon of Prof. Yakubu, Obi’s lead counsel, Dr. Uzoukwu, SAN, said: “My lords, I thought that by now, we would have been through with the stage of tendering of documents. “I have drawn the attention of the lead counsel to the INEC, Mr. Abubakar Mahmood, SAN, that the office of the Chairman of the Commission has consistently refused to accept subpoena to produce certain documents, inspite of efforts of Bailiffs of this court. “The counsel graciously asked me to give him a copy of the subpoena but I didn’t have an extra copy to give to him, so, he asked me to give it to any member of his team. “My lords, because I still do not have an extra copy, I intend to get it and send to him once the proceeding of today is over. “I am confident that he will do the needful for us to continue our case tomorrow,” he added. Kemi Pinhero, SAN while accusing Obi of always looking for who to blame for his failure said: “My lords should take note that it has become a habit for the Petitioners, that whenever they want to seek for an adjournment, they must look for someone to blame. “I was not privy to any discussion they had with our team leader because all the discussions have been open to members of our group. “However, it cannot be true that the Chairman of INEC refused to receive the subpoena. In PDP’s case, subpoenas were served, not only on the Chairman but also on some National Commissioners. “My lords should equally note that all the avalanche of documents they have tendered so far, some of them were certified as far back as in March. "Stop looking for who to blame for your failure", INEC tells Peter ObiMr Peter Obi “Yet, everytime, they keep complaining that INEC refused to release documents to them. “The submission that INEC refused to give documents to them, with due respect to the learned counsel, is not true. “If they want to ask for an adjournment, they should do so and not attempt to use the INEC as weeping board. “I want to say it for the records that it is not correct that INEC Chairman refused to receive subpoena. “The Chairman of INEC has no interest whatsoever. This allegation against him is most uncharitable,” Pinhero, SAN, added. Though counsel for the Petitioners, Uzoukwu, SAN, maintained his position and urged the court to verify from its Bailiffs, if the INEC Chairman did not refuse service of the subpoena, however, Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member panel, urged restraint from both parties. “There is no need to quarrel over this issue. If subpoena was refused, counsel knows what to do. “We should remember that after this case, we will still see each other in court. “So, let us not allow issues like this to destroy bonds of friendship,” Chairman of the panel, Justice Tsammani cautioned the senior lawyers. Following a no objection stance by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, who appeared for President Tinubu, as well as by counsel for the APC, Mr. Afolabi Fashanu, SAN, the court adjourned further hearing on the matter till Thursday.
