Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the premier Igbo socio-cultural organization, has denounced the All Progressives Congress (APC) move to zone the office of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives to the South-East. As the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration debate who would become what in the National Assembly, Ohanaeze called the ruling party’s leadership decision to zone the deputy speakership to Igbo “extremely offensive, repulsive, and provocative to Igbo culture.”

Photo Credit: @Ohanaezendigboo: Twitter According to rumours, the APC is in favour of Barau Jibril serving as Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s deputy. The positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives have been assigned to Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu, respectively. According to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, the group opposed the decision to limit the South-East to hold the House’s second-highest seat. “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has watched with grave concern the zoning of principal officers of the Senate and House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Ohanaeze stated. We have also noted that the South East of Nigeria has been allocated by the All Peoples Congress (APC) for the position of deputy speaker. “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo states that allocating the position of deputy speaker to the South East is highly unreflective, disgusting, and provocative to the Igbo.” Then it instructed all Igbo-born federal lawmakers in Nigeria to cast their votes for the National Assembly’s top officials in the manner they deemed appropriate. To achieve this, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under the leadership of Chief Engr. Dr Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, CFR (Ahaejiagamba), issues a directive to all Igbo legislators in the 10th National Assembly to cast their votes independently of their state, religion, or ethnicity.
This decision was communicated in a statement jointly signed by the Director General of the PCC, Governor Simon Lalong, and the Council’s Secretary, James Faleke. Governor Lalong also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his unwavering support for the APC presidential candidate during the election campaign. 
This was made known on Thursday 14th April by Mr Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, during an appearance on the Politics Today program on Channels Television. Morka added that Tinubu is expected to resume his duties promptly upon his return from Europe. Tinubu’s Whereabouts Ahead of Inauguration “He [Tinubu] is probably in Europe. He’s fine. After the elections and all of the energy expended, he just decided to take a moment of rest. “Once he returns and he’s inaugurated on May 29, there will be no dulling. He’ll be saddled with the responsibility of running a country as massive and complex as Nigeria. “I know he’ll be back in the country very shortly.” He added, “It is working rest because even in his rest, he is also taking the time to reach out to heads of government and other levels of leadership of other countries that are vital to the agenda that he’s bringing in his new government. “So, he’s not sleeping in his bed; he’s also in meetings regularly with all kinds of people who are travelling from other countries to see him preparatory to his inauguration. So, it’s a working visit.” 
Following the announcement of the incumbent governor, Sanwo-Olu leading in the state after clearing 17 Local Government Areas out of 20, GRV released a statement. In a series of tweets, the Labour Party candidate insisted that APC used thugs to intimidate his supporters and that results from his situation room confirmed that he won. Attacks on polling units, voters, and our party agents are totally antithetical to what we stand for & what Lagos truly represents. Collusion between the ruling party and electoral officials to return the candidate of the APC is a slap on the face of democracy and everyone who came out to vote for us on Saturday. In the light of this, I am convinced beyond any doubt that the results being released by INEC do not represent the wishes of majority of peaceful Lagosians. More so the results from our field agents and situation room indicated that we won this election. I am a champion of the people, we are far from done. Do not lose hope, do not waver. This is not over, we have not come this far to accept outright lies, criminality & falsehoods. A fight for FREEDOM is never easily won. Every vote cast for me was done in the face of intimidation and risk of personal harm. Every such vote must count. Defending every one of those votes is a sacred duty. I will defend your votes – this is my vow to every LP voter.” 
During the gubernatorial elections, GRV had alleged that a party member of his was shot and killed. He called out APC and INEC to impose an order to avoid a reaction that may cause ‘Lagos to catch fire.’ According to a statement released on Saturday, the ruling party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Seye Oladejo, expressed that the APC had no justification for violence. “The attention of the APC has been drawn to a statement made by LP’s governorship candidate Mr Gbadebo Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour on Saturday’s elections. “He accused INEC and the police of `provoking Lagosians’ and warning that `if tonight Lagos State catches fire, it is not our fault’. He says `a lot of places are still under attack by thugs and hooligans of the APC. “This scaremongering is typical of bad losers who lack the spirit of sportsmanship,’’ Oladejo stated. “Should there be any breakdown of law and order in any part of our state, law enforcement agencies should know who to grab – Mr Rhodes-Vivour,’’ he added.
