Nigeria’s Super Eagles have gotten a win over Guinea-Bissau after suffering a shock 1-0 defeat to the Djurtus in the first-leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. 
Moses Simon converted a penalty kick which gave the Super Eagles a 1-0 win in the fiercely contested match at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Monday, March 27. The result took the Nigerian national team back to the top of Group A with nine points, and they now have two more than Guinea-Bissau.
The Eagles will travel to Sierra Leone in June before hosting Sao Tome and Principe in their final game of the qualification series. The top two in the group will book an automatic ticket for the upcoming AFCON billed for Ivory Coast in 2024.
The three-time African champions began their chase for a 20th Africa Cup of Nations appearance with a 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone 2-1 at the MKO Abiola Stadium before thrashing Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 on matchday2 with Victor Osimhen scoring four of the goals. 
Funke Akindele and her party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lost the gubernatorial elections this weekend. Funke Akindele lost at her polling unit to incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the results, PDP had 19, APC scored 77 while Labour Party polled 3 votes. A few hours after the loss, Funke Akindele trooped to her Instagram page to delete anything related to politics from her page. The PDP was defeated by the incumbent governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. See the screenshot below. 
Speaking ahead of their Europa League clash with Real Betis tomorrow, March 9, Rashford admitted that their communication during the match was bad. He said; “We didn’t give up, that’s nonsense. We were unorganised, yes, communication was bad, yes, that’s why we conceded the goals. But it comes down to the fact that I believe everyone was trying to get back into the game that much, we came away from the team’s principles in and out of possession. 
“I felt like the forwards were just trying to press as a unit but we weren’t connected with the midfield. And then the same with the midfield and the defence. We were trying to get a grip of the game at 2-0 and 3-0, we were talking but I don’t think we were really in agreement of what to do.” 
Manchester United held their own for much of the first-half against Liverpool, only to see Cody Gakpo break the deadlock in the 43rd minute. The Red Devils then suffered the most dramatic of second-half collapses as the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino got in on the act. The 7-0 defeat became the Red Devils’ heaviest defeat in 92 years. They also suffered 7-0 losses to Wolves in December 1931, Aston Villa in December 1930 and Blackburn Rovers in April 1926. 
Reacting to the defeat, De Gea said in a statement; “I know these message don’t sit well on such a day. This was a disastrous moment for us and these results shouldn’t happen, especially with the journey we are all on. We have a duty to this club, a responsibility to represent the badge but we have many opportunities to look ahead, many games coming fast and we have to lock our focus on these.” 
Gakpo put the Reds in front moments before half-time, cutting in from the left and curling into the far corner of David de Gea’s net. United needed a response at the start of the second half, but instead it was the host who struck quickly as Darwin Nunez scored a scrappy second. Just as the visitors prepared to mount a comeback, it was three as Gakpo’s deft finish rounded off a fluid counter-attack. It was already a hammering, but two goals from Mohamed Salah and another goal from Nunez put the cherry on top of the cake before Roberto Firmino added a seventh. It is Liverpool’s biggest ever win against United, breaking a record which had stood for more than a century. Liverpool beat United 7-1 on October 12, 1895, but now there is a new high point. 
Barcelona was leading at halftime, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s 18th-minute penalty after Bruno Fernandes’ needless foul on Alejandro Balde. Brazilian duo Fred and Antony, who came on as a half-time substitutes for Manchester United, both drilled home low first-time shots in front of an ecstatic Stretford End. The second-half goals from Fred and Antony secured a memorable United win as the La Liga leaders were beaten 2-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate. 
Trailing 3-0 from the Europa League knockout round play-off first leg, PSV scored two late goals through Luuk de Jong and Fabio Silva. But Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side could not find a crucial third goal as the match finished 3-2 on aggregate in favour of Sevilla. The supporter ran on the pitch in the closing stages of the play-off tie and appeared to punch the Serbian keeper. 
The pitch invader was eventually led away by stewards after the incident in the closing stages of the match. Commenting on being attacked after the match was concluded, Dmitrovic said; “He came and pushed me from behind. He was probably angry about the result and a bit crazy already. He tried to hit me and I managed to grab him and wait for him to security will arrive. It’s never nice to see this in football, it shouldn’t happen and from now on I hope these things are well punished. 
“I have never seen anything like it. I’ll keep my mouth shut so I don’t say what I would really like to do in that moment. “He wanted to hurt me, it’s a shame that something like this happens in football field. UEFA must intervene.”
