Some residents have launched a protest on the streets of Sagamu, Ogun State over the Naira and fuel scarcity in the country. There has been a shortage of the new naira notes introduced not too long ago. These shortages of the new naira notes have triggered the anger of most Nigeria as most hit the streets to protest. According to reports, most banks’ ATMs in the city have run out of cash and POS operators have shut down their businesses due to the pending naira scarcity. Angry Nigerians have hit the streets once again to register their displeasure over the scarcity of the new naira notes. The protestors have reportedly blocked roads with barricades and attacked the Union and the FCMB bank branches in Sagamu, Ogun state.

Kaduna residents cooperate with petrol stations, drivers for cash

Due to the scarcity of Naira notes across Nigeria, Kaduna State residents have resorted to petrol stations and commercial drivers for assistance.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, people are seeking cash to meet their urgent needs since most banks’ ATMs in the city have run out of cash and POS operators have shut down for the same reason. As a result, individuals are flocking to fuel stations that accept cash payments for fuel purchases rather than electronic transfers. Reports revealed that individuals in need of cash are reaching an agreement with fuel buyers. They pay for the fuel electronically and receive cash in exchange from the buyer. People who were interviewed at one of the filling stations said that this arrangement provided relief to many individuals who had been experiencing severe hardships. “I got wind of this arrangement today and went to a petrol station dispensing fuel, talked to a commercial bus driver, and he accepted to help me.
“We agreed that I should pay N7,000, through the station’s PoS, being the cost of his fuel, which I did.
“When it was his turn to be dispensed of the fuel, I presented the N7,000 slip, and collected the cash from him in return; it was a big relief to me as I had no cash on me.
“The major challenge is that it is not everything that can be purchased through electronic transfer of money; there are some needs that can only be satisfied using liquid cash”, said Adamu Saleh, a resident.

Aba residents turn bank premises to fast food joint

After waiting for hours at a bank in Abia state, some Nigerians decided to cook and eat at the bank premises. This is coming amid the drama of naira scarcity and Nigerians having to stand in long queues to withdraw cash at the bank.

The residents arrived with camp gas, pots and other cooking utensils and food stuffs which they cooked. A video showed about four men eating noodles from the pot outside the bank. The young men took turns eating the food, while others queued by the ATM and watched in amazement. Angry residents storm bank vandalize ATMs, cars, others

Irate Nigerian youths stormed a bank and vandalized its properties and cars of its staff amidst scarcity of the redesigned currency. As widely reported by news outlets in the country, Nigerians have been moved to react in various ways as cash is not being made adequately available to them in their respective banks.

A recently surfaced video online has shown Automated Teller Machines worth millions of naira which had been destroyed by some unruly Nigerians. It was learned that the incident had occured at a bank in Ibadan, Oyo state. In the viral video, youths could be seen making their way in droves to smash glasses, vandalize cars and ATMs in a bid to express anger. Watch the video below;

Popular influencer, Anita Natacha Akide known simply as Tacha has advised Nigerians to vote for their conscience as she gives monetary rewards to PVC owners.

With the 2023 elections drawing nigh, the reality star launched a solo campaign to advise Nigerian on voting for whom they believe is their best choice and the importance of having their PVCs. In a video she shared, the brand Influencer and BBNaija star stormed the streets, approaching commuters and residents at random to inquire if they have their PVCs.

Those who were able to show theirs she gave some monetary rewards. Tacha noted that she isn’t giving money out just because she has a lot of it, but because she cares. She stressed the importance of keeping in mind that when one votes, one should realize that the vote isn’t for themselves but for their family as the consequence thereof affects everyone. According to the source who shared the video, there hasn’t been power in shomolu for the past 9 days and the residents have taken to sleeping outside because of the heat inside.
One would have expected the residents to put on the generator, but with the high cost of petrol, generators, that seems to be out of option.
